Doctor Who Vs. Spooks, Series 8

Regualr series actors Peter Firth and Richard Armitage returned (as Harry Pearce and Lucas North) for the
eighth season of this award-winning BBC spy drama
from Kudos, which was first broadcast in the autumn
of 2009.
This eight-part series saw the return of Nicola Walker
(as analyst Ruth Evershed), and the departure of both
Miranda Raison and Hermione Norris (as MI5 agents
Jo Portman and Ros Myers, both killed off in episode
three and the finale respectively). Sharaz Latif (as new
Section D analyst Tariq Masood) replaced Hugh Simon 
(Malcolm) here too.
Season eight of Spooks began another repeat run on
the Sony TV channel tonight, and featured another
twenty-five Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Ace Bhatti (Mani) played Rani's dad, Haresh Chandra, in The Sarah Jane Adventures (2008-11)
  • Robert Glenister (Home Secretary) was Salateen in The Caves of Androzani, just his second TV role
  • Justin Avoth (Rudy) voiced Mikhail for Big Finish's The New Counter Measures: Who Killed Toby Kinsella? (BF, 2016)
  • Brian Protheroe (Walker) voiced Bob Gell and Captain O'Brien for Eldrad Must Die! (BF, 2013), and Captain Hardwick for Static (2017)
  • Alan Bond (Businessman) was a UNIT Soldier in The Sound of Drums, Last of the Time Lords, and Torchwood: Children of Earth
  • Gerard Murphy (Gulyanov) was Richard Maynarde in Silver Nemesis
  • Bentley Kalu (Officer) was a Hood in The Angels Take Manhattan
  • Andrew Havill (Maynard) was the Chief Steward in Voyage of the Damned, and voiced both Aleister Portillon and Squire Claude for The Witch From the Well (BF, 2011)
  • Sagar Arya (Chatterjee) was a Newsreader on The Christmas Invasion, and The Sarah Jane Adventures
  • Ashley Kumar (Veerkal) voiced Jared for both The Crimes of Thomas Brewster (BF, 2011) and The Curse of Davros (BF, 2012)
  • Tobias Menzies (Lawrence) was Lieutenant Stepashin (pictured) in Cold War
  • Bhasker Patel (Lal Rei) was Jival Chowdry in Turn Left
  • James Weber Brown (Journalist) was the Minister for In the Forest of the Night
  • Curtis Rivers (Assassin) doubled for John Barrowman (as Captain Jack) in UtopiaThe Sound of Drums, and Torchwood
  • stunt performers Dean Forster and Stephanie Carey both also worked on the revived run (on nine episodes, from The Christmas Invasion to Robot of Sherwood, and seven others, from Voyage of the Damned to The Crimson Horror respectively)
  • for Robert Edwards (ADR mixer), Crispin Layfield (stuntman), Jamie Pearson (editor), and Nick Roberts (sound recordist) see my previous blogs
  • Anthony Bayman was also ADR mixer on The Beast Below, Victory of the Daleks, The Vampires of Venice and The Sarah Jane Adventures
