Doctor Who Vs. James Bond, Part 9: GoldenEye

ITV4's latest Bond film season continued last night with Irish-born actor Pierce Brosnan's debut as the iconic British spy, Agent 007. 
GoldenEye, the seventeenth instalment in Eon's franchise, was the first not to include elements 
from the works of Ian Fleming (the title was taken 
from the name of the author's Jamaican estate).
The film was released in late 1995 after a six-year hiatus caused by legal disputes, during which 
Timothy Dalton resigned from the lead role
 (after just two assignments) and was replaced 
by Brosnan. Series veteran Desmond Llewellyn 
returned as Q but both M and Moneypenny were 
also recast - Dame Judi Dench (now the first 
female head of MI6) and Samantha Bond 
replaced Robert Brown and Caroline Bliss 
The feature's location filming was undertaken in Monte Carlo, Switzerland, 
St. Petersburg and Puerto Ricowith interiors now filmed at a purpose-built 
studio at Leavesden (Pinewood's Bond stage was unavailable). Tina Turner 
provided the opening theme song, written by U2.
