Doctor Who Vs. Agatha Christie's Poirot, Series 1

ITV's long-running period crime drama began
in 1989, and David Suchet's portrayal of the
Queen of Crime's Belgian detective is now
regarded as the definitive Hercule Poirot.
Actors Hugh Fraser, Phillip Jackson and
Pauline Moran all joined the series here as
recurring characters, Captain Arthur Hastings, Inspector James Japp and Felicity Lemon.
The series endured until late 2013, when LWT
(then ITV Studios) concluded their adaptations
of all seventy of Christie's works with Curtain: Poirot's Last Case.
Suchet was cast as the Landlord for the
forthcoming tenth season of Doctor Who.
Fraser and Jackson later starred in Big Finish
plays - the former in Circular Time (2007),
The Cradle of the Snake (2010), Moonflesh
(2014), Criss-CrossAll Consuming Fire
(both 2015), and The Trouble With Drax
(2016); the latter in Valhalla (2007), and The Contingency Club (2017).
Five of the serials here were based on short stories from Poirot's Early Cases
(published in 1974), three more from Murder in the Mews and Other Stories
(1937), and two from The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding (1960).
