Doctor Who Vs. Spooks, Series 3

Regular series actors Peter Firth, Hugh Simon, Rory MacGregor, Nicola Walker and Shauna Macdonald all 
returned for the  third run of this award-winning BBC 
spy drama, which was first broadcast in the autumn 
of 2004.
This ten-part series saw the departure of three other 
main characters, the MI5 officers Tom Quinn (played 
by Matthew Macfadyen), Zoe Reynolds (Keeley Hawes), 
and Danny Hunter (David Oyelowo), and Rupert Penry-
Jones joined the programme here, as former MI6 agent 
Adam Carter.
Macfadyen is now best known as Mr. Darcy in Pride and 
Prejudice, and currently stars in Ripper Street. Hawes
was later cast as Alex Drake in Ashes to Ashes, and
was recently seen in Line of Duty.
The third season of Spooks began another repeat run
on the Drama channel last night, and featured twenty
Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Johnny Campbell also directed The Vampires of Venice and Vincent and the Doctor
  • director Bill Anderson has been assigned to Series 10/Block 2
  • Jalaal Hartley (Sayle) was Dick in The Shakespeare Code
  • Harriet Walter (Deep Throat) voiced Beatrice Mapp for Big Finish's The Boy That Time Forgot (2008)
  • Alisdair Simpson (Officer) voiced both Sir Francis White and David Ritchie for 1963: The Assassination Games (BF, 2013), Cleon for Mask of Tragedy (BF, 2014), and Colonel Lifford for The Diary of River Song (BF, 2015)
  • Jake Polonsky was also the cinematographer on The Bells of Saint John and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
  • Huw Rhys (North) was Redpath in The Unquiet Dead
  • Debra Gillett (Psychologist) was Rita Connolly in The Idiot's Lantern
  • Barnaby Kay (Fortescue) was Heidi in The Girl Who Died, and voiced Martin Donaldson for Dark Eyes 4: A Life in the Day (BF. 2015), and Commander Thrakken for The War Doctor 2: Infernal Devices (BF, 2016)
  • Daniel Evans (QC) was Danny Llewellyn in The Christmas Invasion
  • Dominic Mafham (DS Loughton) voiced Moran for The Jigsaw War (BF, 2012), and Chidak for both The Dalek Contract and The Final Phase (BF, 2013)
  • Ian McNeice (Judge) played Winston Churchill in Victory of the Daleks and The Wedding of River Song (a role reprised by Big Finish for The Churchill Years), and voiced Zeus for Immortal Beloved (BF, 2007) and Reginald Harcourt for Renaissance Man (BF, 2012)
  • Kayvan Novak (Ozal) provided the voice of Handles for The Time of the Doctor
  • Clare Corbett (Teacher) voiced two roles for the Hornet's Nest series from AudioGo (2009), Ernestina Stott for The Dead Shoes, and a Nun for A Sting in the Tale
  • Big Finish actor Adrian Lukis (Sylvester) voiced Bragg for Cobwebs (2010), Byzan for The Children of Seth (2011), Professor Jeffrey Broderick for Counter Measures 1 (2012), Harvey Marsh for The Justice of Jalxar, and Sigmund Freud for Jago & Litefoot 6 (both 2013)
  • Tim McInnerny (Mace) and Adrian Rawlins (Forrestal) both appeared in Planet of the Ood, as Klineman Halpen and Dr. Ryder respectively - McInnerny also voiced Admiral Dolne for The Well-Mannered War (BF, 2015)
  • Arabella Weir (Michelle) has the distinction of being only the second actress (after Joanna Lumley) to portray a female Doctor, in Unbound: Exile (BF, 2003)
  • Owen Teale (Morgan) was Maldak (pictured) in Vengeance on Varos, and voiced Hayton for The Mind's Eye (BF, 2007)
  • Julian Nix was the graphic designer on An Adventure in Space and Time too
