Doctor Who Vs. Agatha Christie's Marple: By the Pricking of My Thumbs

This period crime drama was first broadcast
in February 2006 as part of the second season
 of Marple. The original novel was published in 
1968, and actually featured Agatha Christie's 
other amateur detectives, married couple 
Tommy and Tuppence Beresford (played by 
Anthony Andrews and Greta Scacchi), and not 
Jane Marple - again portrayed by Geraldine 
McEwan. 
The duo first appeared in the The Secret Adversary (1922), then N or M? (1941), the 
short story collection Partners in Crime (1968), and Christie's final work, Postern of Fate
 (1973).
The thriller, repeated again on ITV3 today, featured Bonnie Langford (as Betty 
Johnson) and nine other Doctor Who cast connections:

  • Claire Bloom (Aunt Ada) and June Whitfield (Mrs. Lancaster) both later starred in The End of Time, as The Woman and Minnie Hooper
  • Michelle Ryan (Rose) played Lady Christina de Souza in Planet of the Dead
  • Steven Berkoff (Eccles) was the Shakri in The Power of Three
  • Michael Begley (Maxwell) was Mulligan in The Curse of the Black Spot
  • OT Fagbenle (Murphy) was Other Dave in Forest of the Dead and Silence in the Library
  • Big Finish actor Michael Maloney (Dr. Waters) voiced Simonsson for Grand Theft Cosmos (2008), Fratalin for Patient Zero, the Viryans for Blue Forgotten Planet (both 2009), Rennol for Kiss of Death, Farrow for Hornet's Nest: The Circus of Doom (both 2011), Hilary for Destiny of the Doctor: Enemy Aliens (2013), and Gregor Saraton for Zygon Hunt (2014)
  • Lesley Phillips (Starke) voiced Robert Knox for both Medicinal Purposes (BF, 2004) and Assassin in the Limelight (BF, 2008)
  • stunt double Stephanie Carey was a stunt performer in Voyage of the DamnedThe Beast Below, The Curse of the Black Spot, Let's Kill Hitler, The Girl Who Waited, The Angels Take Manhattan, The Crimson Horror and Torchwood
