Doctor Who Vs. Carry On Cruising

The sixth instalment in the Carry
On franchise was the stable's first production filmed in colour.
Following two abortive scripts from Michael Pertwee (Carry On Smoking
and Carry On Flying), Carry On Spaceman was intended to follow
Carry On Regardless (1961), but
was eventually abandoned in 1962
and was replaced by this title.
Series stalwarts Sid James (as Captain
Crowther), Kenneth Williams (First
Officer Marjoriebanks), and Kenneth
Connor (Dr. Binn) all starred here.
Newcomers Lance Percival and Dilys
Laye were both cast as replacements
for series regulars Charles Hawtrey
and Joan Sims.
Shown on ITV3 today, the comedy featured Liz Fraser (in her second of
four appearances) and five Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Alan Casley (Sailor) was Miro in (episode 1 of) Planet of the Daleks
  • Aileen Lewis (Mrs. Lewis) was an Extra on The Silurians (6)
  • Jan Williams and Reg Thomason (Passengers) were a Guardian in The Ark, and a Resistance Man in Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 AD
  • Joan Ellacot was the costume designer on The Deadly Assassin too
