Doctor Who Vs. Marple: At Bertam's Hotel

The opening mystery in ITV's third season of Marple 
was loosely based on Agatha Christie's fifty-sixth 
novel, published in 1965. This second TV adaptation changed the plot, characters and setting, and was
Geraldine McEwan's penultimate appearance as
Marple.
One of Miss Marple's few outings from St. Mary Mead 
finds her staying in London. Bertram's, the fictional 
hotel featured in the story, is thought to have been
 inspired by Brown's, a favourite haunt of Christie's, 
but could also have been based on another Mayfair 
hotel, Fleming's.
The serial (originally shown in September 2007) 
was repeated again on ITV3 today, and starred 
Peter Davison (as Hubert Curtain) and twelve 
other Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Nicholas Burns (Britten) was Lord Sutcliffe in Thin Ice
  • Georgia Allen (Mrs. Rice) was the Girl opposite Jim Broadbent's Doctor in the Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV sketch, Terror of the Ming Mongs
  • Tom Lucy was also the stunt co-ordinator on sixteen episodes (from Smith and Jones to The Next Doctor)
