Doctor Who Vs. Man Up

This Anglo-French romantic
comedy (co-produced by BBC
Films) featured Simon Pegg (as
divorcee Jack) and American
actress Lake Bell (serial
singleton Nancy).
The feature premiered at the
Tribeca Film Festival then was
released by Studio Canal in
May 2015.
Shown on BBC Two last night,
Man Up also featured Ken Stott,
Ophelia Lovibond, Olivia Williams,
and thirteen Doctor Who cast and
crew connections:

  • Pegg played the Editor in The Long Game, voiced Don Chaney for Big Finish's Invaders From Mars (2002), and narrated the first series of Doctor Who Confidential
  • Harriet Walter (Fran) voiced Beatrice Mapp for The Boy That Time Forgot (BF, 2008)
  • Rory Kinnear (Sean) voiced Samuel Belfrage for Industrial Evolution (BF, 2011)
  • Shaun Lucas (Bowler) was a Monk in The Bells of Saint John
  • Oliver Lansley (Man) was Jorj in World Enough and Time
  • Annabel Canaven was also a stunt performer on The Almost People, The Snowmen, The Day of the Doctor, Deep Breath and Kill the Moon
  • Paul Kennington, Lloyd Bass, Chris Pollard and Marlow Warrington Mattei were all stuntmen on the revived series too
  • Martin Curry was also the first assistant director on The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon
  • Neal Champion (SFX supervisor) and Julian Nix (graphics designer) both worked on An Adventure inn Space and Time too
  • Richard Rowntree was also the greensman on forty-one stories (from The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe to The Husbands of River Song)
