acclaimed crime drama originally aired on ITV
in the winter of 1993. John Thaw and Kevin
Whately again portrayed Thames Valley CID's
Oxford-based detectives, Morse and Lewis.
This series earned a second Best Drama award
from BAFTA, and Thaw won his third Best Actor
prize.
Five feature-length specials followed, and the programme concluded in 2000 with the death
of Morse, but the character endured for the
prequel series, Endeavour. Shaun Evans played
the younger Morse from 2012, whilst Whately
continued to play Lewis in the long-running
spin-off show.
A repeat run of the three mysteries (all
original screenplays) concluded on ITV3
today, and featured a total of twenty-five
