today. Set in 1930s Yorkshire,

the programme was based on

 the works of Northern vet, Alf

Wight (1916-1995) - he wrote

under the pen-name of James

Herriot, and was portrayed here

by Christopher Timothy.

The third, fourteen part series

(originally shown from Christmas

• Joan [Cecilia Frances] Young [born Wragge] (Miss Westerman) was Catherine de Medici in The Massacre

• Andrew Lane (George) was a Foamasi in The Leisure Hive
• Frederick [William] Treves (Hulton) was Lieutenant Brotadac in Meglos
