Lynda La Plante's acclaimed crime drama returned to ITV
in June 2002, delayed from its
usual October slot by the 9/11
attacks.

Like La Plante's earlier hit series Prime Suspect, the programme employed
its distinctive split-screen technique. A repeat run of this two-part case
began on ITV3 last night - it featured fourteen Doctor Who cast and crew connections:
- Susan Engel (Sylvia) was Cessair in The Stones of Blood, then voiced Muriel Joy for Big Finish's A Blind Eye (2004)
- Georgina Hale [born Hole] (Tammy) was Daisy K in The Happiness Patrol
- Serena Evans (Hannah) voiced Agnes Bates for The Witch from the Well (2011)
- Martyn Whitby (Prison Officer) was the Drayman in (part 1 of) The Mark of the Rani
- Greg Bennett (Detective) was Sycorax Warrior/UNIT Soldier in The Christmas Invasion, and Guest in The Lazarus Experiment
- Paul Courtenay Hyu (Officer) was Haruka Deep Ando in Sleep No More, then voiced Po/Feedback for Neon Reign (2018), Wei for The People Made of Smoke (2020), and Oddiyana for The Secrets of Det Sen (2021)
- for Simon Callow and Nikki Wilson see Series 2
- David Mack was also first assistant director on The Rings of Akhaten and The Night of the Doctor
- Jamie Harcourt was also a camera operator on The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit
