originally published monthly in Bentley's Miscellany from 1837-39) was only Charles
Dickens' second novel.
David Lean's acclaimed film version of the
book in 1948 was followed by the BBC's first adaptation in 1962, then the Oscar winning
Oliver! in 1968. The most recent TV drama-
tisation was broadcast in 2007.
Originally transmitted on CBS in 1982, this
TV movie production was shown on Talking
Pictures TV today - it featured Richard Charles (pictured as the eponymous orphan),
George C Scott (Fagin), Tim Curry (Sikes),
Michael Hordern, and thirteen Doctor Who
