Doctor Who Vs. Hannay, Series 2

This adventure series was the
TV spin-off from Rank's 1978 film version of The Thirty Nine
Steps, shown on Talking Pictures
TV last night. Both productions
starred Robert Powell as John
Buchan's Richard Hannay.
This Thames Television period
drama (set before the Great
War) had little in common with
 Buchan's novels, but used
character names from his other
works.
Hannay followed two BBC adapt-
ations of The ThreeHostages, in
1952 and 1977, with Patrick Barr
then Barry Foster as  the hero. Rupert Penry Jones portrayed Hannay in BBC Scotland's remake of The 39 Steps in 2008.
In 2017, Polygon (Buchan's original publishers) released The Thirty-One
Kings - the first new Hannay story in eighty years, written by Scottish
children's author, Robert J Harris.
