Doctor Who Vs. Marple: Murder is Easy

This period crime drama (first shown
in September 2009) was loosely based
on Agatha Christie's twenty-fifth novel
(known in America as Easy to Kill),
published in 1939.
Adapted by Stephen Churchett (who
again starred here as the Coroner) for
season four, the mystery now included
Miss Marple (again portrayed by Julia
McKenzie). An American TV version
was produced in 1982, with original protagonist, Luke Fitzwilliam, played
by Bill Bixby.
Repeated on ITV3 today, the case
featured Jemma Redgraveand
a dozen Doctor Who cast and crew
connections:

  • Sylvia [May Laura] Syms (Lavinia here; Mrs. Easterbrook in A Murder is Announced; Mrs. Hubbard in Murder on the Orient Express, 1993) was Mrs. Pritchard in Ghost Light
  • Alex Kaye-Besley was assistant director on The Shakespeare Code too
