Doctor Who Vs. Casualty, Series 4

Regular series actors Derek Thompson, Brenda Fricker, Cathy Shipton, Eddie Nestor, Geoffrey Leesley and Susan Franklyn all returned for the fourth season of BBC One's long-running medical drama.

were William Gaminara (as Dr. Andrew Bower), Tam
Hoskyns (SHO Lucy Perry),
Belinda Davison (student
nurse Alex Spencer), Ian
 Bleasdale (paramedic Josh Griffiths), Vivienne McKone (receptionist Julie Stevens) and Robson Green (porter Jimmy Powell). Gaminara appeared
in just four episodes (then became a regular cast member on The Bill
and Silent Witness), whilst Nestor, Franklyn, Hoskyns, Davidson, and McKone all left at the series' conclusion.
A repeat run of the series (now with a slightly increased run of twelve
episodes, and originally broadcast from September to December 1989)
began on Drama this week - it featured Colin BakerMary Tamm,
Sarah Sutton, and a total of twenty-eight other Doctor Who cast
and crew connections:

  • Sean [Carl] Pertwee (PC Johns) made a cameo appearance in The Five(ish) Doctors
  • Christopher [Denis] Driscoll (Rulton) was the Security Guard in The Idiot's Lantern
  • Maggie Ollerenshaw (Beverley) voiced Audrey McShane for Big Finish's Love and War (2012), Allora for Gallifrey 6 (2013), and Dame Wilhelmina Gussett for The Woman in White (2016)
  • Russell Hunter [born Ellis] (Crew) was Commander [Kiy] Uvanov in The Robots of Death
  • David Kinder (Cumming) made his TV debut as Billy in Delta and the Bannermen
  • Shirin Taylor (Helen here; Joan, 1993; Sharon, 1995; Michelle, 2005) was Camper in (part 3 of) The Stones of Blood, and Customer in Dragonfire
  • Mark Straker (PC Rogers) and Christopher Whittingham (Dr. Grimes here; Dr. Clifton, 2005) both made their TV debuts in Earthshock as Second Trooper (1) and Second Crewman (2) respectively
  • Chris Jury (DC Monahan here; Skinner, 1994 & writer 2000/01) was Deadbeat in The Greatest Show in the Galaxy - a role reprised for The Psychic Circus (2020)
  • Christopher Villiers (Lewis here; Major, 2005) was Hugh Fitzwilliam in The King's Demons, Professor Moorhouse in Mummy on the Orient Express, and voiced Cacothis for Absolution (2007)
  • Jonathan Caplan (Registrar) was Roskal in Planet of Fire
  • Andrew Robertson (Offenbach here; Harkness, 1999) was Mr. Fibuli in The Pirate Planet
  • June Page (Jean) was Keara in Full Circle
  • Ivor Roberts (Davies) was Mogran in Genesis of the Daleks (3)
  • Richard Lumsden (Phil here; Scott, 2002; Hawley, 2007; Philip, 2015) voiced Professor Landren for Buried Time (2019), and Dr. Vance for Antillia the Lost (2023)
  • Marilyn Le Conte (Sgt. Pilton here; Surgeon, 1993) voiced the titular woman for The Lady of the Lake
  • Jeremy Bulloch (Cunningham) was Hal in The Time Warrior
  • David Savile (Stevens) was Lieutenant Jeremy Carstairs in The War Games, Professor Winser in The Claws of Axos, and Colonel Charles Crichton in The Five Doctors
  • Paul Lowther (Mike) was Knight in The King's Demons (1), and Orderly in Frontios (1)
  • Martyn Ellis (Vaughn) was Greg Blakeman/Glune Fex Fize Sharlaveer Slam Slitheen in The Sarah Jane Adventures: Revenge of the Slitheen, then voiced the Rotter/Delius for Last of the Zetacene (2022)
  • Julian [Wyatt] Glover (Richardson here; Farrow, 2011) was King Richard in The Crusade, and Scaroth in City of Death
  • script editor Jane Tranter was made Head of Drama at the BBC in 2000, then was responsible for commissioning the revived run of Doctor Who in 2003 with Lorraine Heggessey
  • director Steve Goldie began his career as the AFM on The Armageddon Factor (6), and worked on Termius as production manager
  • Rita Dunn was the PA on Snakedance too
  • location manager Diana Barton was the line producer on twenty-two stories (from A Christmas Carol to The Crimson Horror)
  • Joanna Newbery was the AFM on Time and the Rani too
  • PA Carole Bisset was the director's assistant on The Leisure Hive
  • Alexandra Todd was the PA on The Greatest Show in the Galaxy too
