Drama today. Now set in 1940s
Yorkshire, the programme was
based on the works of Northern
vet, Alf Wight (1916-1995) - he
wrote under the pen-name of
James Herriot, again portrayed
by Christopher Timothy.
The fifth, twelve-part series
(first shown from September
to November 1988) featured

- Geoffrey Leesley (Roper) voiced Paramount Minister Mortund for Big Finish's Arrangements for War (2004), and Harold for AudioGo's The Broken Crown
- Norman Mitchell [born Driver] (Birtwhistle) was a Policeman in (episode 7 of) The Daleks' Master Plan
- [Ernest] Edward Dentith (Buttermere) was Major General Billy Rutlidge in The Invasion
- Peter [Henry] Benson (Wain) and Martin Potter (Elder) both appeared in Terminus, as Bor and Eirak
- Tony Virgo was director of The King's Demons too
- Nigel Curzon was production designer on Terror of the Zygons too
- Tony Redston (production associate) was production manager (PM) on The Mark of the Rani and Time and the Rani
- Riitta Lynn was PM on Battlefield too
- Shirley Coward was also vision mixer on thirty-seven episodes (from The Tenth Planet to The Happiness Patrol)
- Liz Mace (location manager) was PM on Time Flight
- Nick Barnett was also props buyer on Battlefield, Ghost Light and Survival (3)
