Doctor Who Vs. Tales From The Crypt

Shown on Talking Pictures TV today, this
low-budget British feature was the fifth film
anthology from Amicus Productions, and was
based on stories from the Entertaining (EC)
Comics series (which ran from 1950 to 1955).
The thriller was directed by Oscar-winning 
cinematographer Freddie Francis, and co-
produced by Max Rosenberg. Icomprised
five original portmanteau tales (titled And 
All Through the House, Reflection of Death, 
Poetic Justice, Wish You Were Here and
 Blind Alleysall written by Milton Subotsky
Three of these segments were later adapted 
for the HBO network's Tales from the Crypt 
TV series (1989-96).
Released by Fox in 1972, the production
featured Ralph Richardson, Peter Cushing,
Geoffrey BayldonJoan Collins, Ian Hendry, and eighteen Doctor Who
cast and crew connections:

  • [Albert] Martin Boddey (Clayton) was Robert Walker in The Sea Devils
  • Robin Phillips (Elliot) was Altos in The Keys of Marinus
  • Barbara [Ann] Murray (Enid) was Lady Cranleigh in Black Orchid
  • [Kenneth] Clifford Earl (Sergeant) was the Sergeant in (episode 7 of) The Daleks' Master Plan, and Major Branwell in The Invasion
  • [Albert] Edward [Walker] Evans (Ramsey) was Ted Moss in Image of the Fendahl

  • Robert Rietty [born Lucio Herbert Rietti] (Newscaster) voiced Bedloe for Death Comes to Time
  • Bart Allison [born Henry James Patrick] and Ernest C Jennings [born Ernest Charles Jenney] (Blind Men) both starred in The Romans, as Maximus Pettulian and Man in Market - Jennings was also Peasant in State of Decay (1) and Rebel in Mindwarp (5)
  • Graham Tonbridge [born Wilfred Graham Ollive Thomas] (Pallbearer) was Council Member in The Massacre (3), and Journalist in The War Machines (1)
  • Chris [James] Gannon and [William] Bartlett Mullins (Blind Men) were Casey in The Talons of Weng-Chiang, and the Second Elder in The Sensorites
  • Len Saunders (Old Man) was a Dalek operator in Dr. Who and the Daleks, and Slave/Cameraman in Day of the Daleks
  • Fred Wood (Mortician) was an Extra in Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 AD
  • Doug Ferris was matte artist on the first Dalek film too, whilst Gerald Larn was matte painter on both features too
