Doctor Who Vs. Campion. Series 1


The only television adaptations of the classic crime stories of Margery
Allingham were originally transmitted in 1989 and 1990, and starred
Peter Davison as gentleman sleuth Albert Campion (pictured centre),
with Brian Glover (as his manservant Magersfontein Lugg, left), and
Andrew Burt (as Inspector Stanislaus Oates, right).
Allingham (1904-1966) penned eighteen Campion novels and twenty 
short stories between 1929 and 1965, whilst her final work (Cargo of 
Eagleswas completed by her husband and published posthumously 
in 1968.
repeat run of the first, eight-part series began on BBC4 last night -
it featured a total of thirty-five Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Gillian [Mary] Martell (Julia) was Lily Gregson in K9 and Company
  • John Franklyn-Robbins (Seeley) was a Time Lord in Genesis of the Daleks (1)

  • [Francis] Michael Gough (Hayhoe) played the titular role in The Celestial Toymaker, and was Councillor Hedin in Arc of Infinity
  • Moray [Robin Philip Adrian] Watson (Sir Leo) was Sir Robert Muir in Black Orchid
  • Rob [Charlton] Edwards (Whippet) provided the voice of Xoanon for The Face of Evil, and was Chub in The Robots of Death (1)

  • Milton Johns [born John Robert Milton] (Potter) was Theodore Benik in The Enemy of the World, Guy Crayford in The Android Invasion, and Castellan Kelner in The Invasion of Time
  • Adrian Lukis (D'Urfey) voiced Officer Bragg for Cobwebs (2010), Byzan for The Children of Seth (2011), Professor Jeffrey Broderick for Counter Measures 1 (2012), Harvey Marsh for The Justice of Jalxar, Sigmund Freud for Return of the Repressed (both 2013), and Ansillon for Blood of the Time Lords (2022) - he was also cast in The War Between the Land and the Sea
