Central's final Morse mysteries
 were all based on Colin Dexter's
 last crime novels, and were first

screened from 1995 to 2000.

John Thaw and Kevin Whately
again portrayed the Oxford-based

detectives (although Lewis did not appear in the penultimate thriller,

which examined a real-life Victorian

murder).

Published in 1999, Dexter's final work, The Remorseful Day, con-

cluded the thirteen year saga with

Morse's death - the drama spawned

two spin-off series, Lewis (2006 to 2015) and Endeavour (2012-2024). Three-times BAFTA winner (twice for Morse) John Thaw died in 2002, aged 60, whilst Dexter's death at the age

of 86 was announced in March 2017.

Corrie ended its first decade with the broad-
cast of its first colour episode (in November
1969) and a brand new title sequence. As
the soap approached its tenth anniversary
and thousandth episode, it was hit by strike
action at Granada which kept the show off the

air for most of June 1970. ITV's Colour Strike

later in the year meant that the drama was

recorded in monochrome again from November

1970 to February 1971.
The troubled early Seventies therefore

 resulted in the first major ratings slump since

 the programme's formative years.

Doctor Who Vs. Casualty, Series 3

Geraint Morris (1941-1997) continued to produce BBC1's popular medical drama, and the majority of the regular cast remained unchanged. Joining

Susan Franklyn (administrator Valerie Sinclair), Julie Graham, Shaheen Khan (student nurses Alison McGrellis and Kiran Joghill), and Carol Leader (receptionist Sandie Timkins).

this series at its conclusion. Bernard Gallagher chose to leave the show,

so his character Ewart Plimmer was killed off in Burn Out. Ella Wilder

Trzcinski) both departed in the finale.

Doctor Who Vs. Van Der Valk, Series 5

ITV's classic crime drama again starred Barry Foster as the eponymous Dutch detective, was based on characters created by Nicolas Freeling for
his Van Der Valk novels in 1962. Produced at Thames Television's studios
 in London, with location scenes shot in the books' Amsterdam setting, the 
show was revived in early 1991, thirteen years after the previous series.
