Doctor Who Vs. James Bond, Part 13: Octopussy

ITV4's lastest Bond season continued last night

with Roger Moore's sixth and penultimate assign-

ment as Agent 007. The title of Eon's thirteenth

production was taken from Ian Fleming's 1966

anthology, Octopussy and the Living Daylights.

Although an original screenplay, this story was

loosely based on another short story, The

Property of a Lady.

Main location filming was undertaken in India,

England and Berlin, interiors were filmed at Pine-

wood studios, and Rita Coolidge provided the

opening theme song.

Following the death of Bernard Lee in 1981, Robert

Brown made his first of four appearances here as

M, and the film (released in 1983) featured twenty

Doctor Who Vs. Where Eagles Dare

MGM's classic British war film (released in

late 1968) was shown on BBC4 last night.

The action centred on a fictional Allied

rescue mission in the Bavarian Alps.

Scottish novelist Alistair MacLean (1922-

1987) wrote both the screenplay (the first

of five planned features based on his

thrillers) and the book, his twelfth, at the

same time. The noted phrase used here ("Broadsword calling Danny Boy") was

referenced by Mark Gatiss in his script for Victory of the Daleks.

Doctor Who Vs. The House That Dripped Blood

 

Shown on Legend last night, this British anthology feature starred

the BBC's newly cast Third Doctor actor, Jon Pertwee (pictured as

Henderson), cinema Doctor Peter Cushing, and Big Finish's own

Time Lord Geoffrey Bayldon.

Released by Amicus in 1971, the film consisted of four linked short

stories, all scripted by Psycho writer, Robert Bloch. Here, a Scotland

Yard detective investigated the mysteries, all centred on the epony-

mous building. The production also featured Christopher Lee, Joss

Ackland, Denholm Elliott, and eleven other Doctor Who cast and

crew connections:
