Doctor Who Vs. Casualty @ 40: Series 5

Series regulars Derek Thompson, Brenda
Fricker, Cathy Shipton,
Geoffrey Leesley, Ian Bleasdale, and Robson 
Green all returned for
the fifth season of BBC
One's flagship medical
drama. Joining the
programme here were
Nigel Le Vaillant (as
registrar Julian
Chapman), Mamta
Kaash (SHO Beth
Ramanee), Patrick Robinson (nurse Martin Ashford), Maggie McCarthy
(receptionist Helen Green), Eamon Boland (social worker Tony Walker),
and Caroline Webster (paramedic Jane Scott). Boland and McCarthy had
left the show by the series' conclusion, whilst Leesley and Fricker chose
to depart after three and four years service respectively - the latter
would return as nurse Megan Roach in 1998, 2007 and 2010.
The thirteen-part run (originally shown from September to December
1990) featured Christopher Eccleston, Louise Jameson, Jamie

Doctor Who Vs. Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), Series 2

Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer, Emilia Fox,
and Tom Baker all returned for the
 second, and final series of Working
Title TV's remake of ITC's late Sixties
cult crime drama. Lead writer Charlie
Higson collaborated on screenplays with
Gareth Roberts and Mark Gatiss.
The second serial featured a vocal
version of David Arnold's theme sung
by The Cardigans, and was included on
the soundtrack CD. A tie-in book and
 two novelisations were published too.

Doctor Who Vs. Centurion

Pathé's historical action film, written and
directed by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers),
was loosely based on the legend of the
massacre of the Roman Ninth Legion in
Caledonia (ancient Scotland) in the early
second century AD. 
The story was popularised in the 1954 
children's novel, The Eagle of the Ninth,
adapted as The Eagle in 2011. The cast was
led by Michael Fassbender and Dominic West
as the titular Centurion, Quintus Dias and
General Titus Flavius Virilus.
Released in 2010 by Warner Bros. the film
 was screened on Legend Extra last night,
and featured Noel Clarke, and twenty-two

Doctor Who Vs. Tip Toe

Conceived and written

Channel 4's new prime-
time drama was made

uctions. Although Welsh
 by birth, Davies' affinity
 for Northern culture in
general and 'Manc-
hattan' in particular has
resulted in at least eight other dramas set in the
city since Granada's The
Grand in 1997.
Tip Toe is a dark, topical story of online disinformation - here Leo (Alan
Cumming) is gay, and the owner of a bar on Canal Street, whilst Clive
(David Morrissey) is the homophobic nextdoor neighbour.
This five-part suburban thriller began last night - it was produced by
Phil Collinson, and featured Denise Welch, and these fourteen Doctor

Doctor Who Vs. Casanova

This account of the life of the fabled Venetian
adventurer, Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798)
was scripted by Russell T Davies and co-
executive produced with Julie Gardner.
Veteran Irish actor Peter O'Toole (1932-2013) portrayed the older Casanova, whilst David
Tennant's role as the younger man led Davies
 to cast him in the lead of the newly revived
Doctor Who series.
BBC Wales' three-part comedy drama (a co-
production with Red and Granada TV) was the
Corporation's second version of the famed
 libertine's life story, following Dennis Potter's acclaimed mini-series, shown in late 1971.

Doctor Who Vs. 55 Degrees North

In this BBC1 crime drama,
Don Gilet played Nicky Cole,
the Detective Sergeant trans-
fered from London to the fictional Tyneside police force in Newcastle (the titular
destination) after exposing
 police corruption in the Met. 
The first, six-part run aired
during the summer of 2004,
