Doctor Who Vs. Marple: The Moving Finger

Agatha Christie's thirty-third crime novel (one
of her own favourites) was serialised in 1942
for the American Collier's Weekly magazine,
then was issued in Britain as Moving Finger
for Woman's Pictorial later that year. The
third Marple mystery was adapted for BBC
TV (in 1985) and radio (2001), then this ITV
Studios production was first screened in
February 2006.
Geraldine McEwan (1932-2015) again port-
rayed Jane Marple in her sixth case, repeated
on ITV3 today - it featured these seventeen
Doctor Who cast and crew onnections:

  • Jessica [Stevenson] Hynes (Aimee here; Narrator of Spider's Web, 2020) played Joan Redfern in Human Nature and The Family of Blood, then (that character's great-grand daughter) Verity Newman in The End of Time - she also voiced Glory Bee for Big Finish's Invaders from Mars (2002)
  • Thelma Barlow [born Pigott] (Emily Barton here; Anthea for Nemesis, 1998) was Lady Thaw in The Lazarus Experiment
  • John [Gibb Marshall] Sessions (Pye here; Radio Voice for Four and Twenty Blackbirds) provided the voice of Gus for Mummy on the Orient Express, and voiced General Tannis for Death Comes to Time, Amadeus Mozart for My Own Private Wolfgang (2007), and Roland for Castle of Fear (2009)
  • Emilia [Rose Elizabeth] Fox (Joanna here; Theo for Magnolia Blossom) voiced Berenice for Nevermore (2010), and Lady Winters for The Gunpowder Plot
  • [Simon] James D'Arcy (Jerry Burton here; Kettering in The Mystery of the Blue Train) voiced Michael for Paradise 5 (2010)
  • Talulah Riley (Megan here; Angela in Five Little Pigs) was Miss Evangelista in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead
  • Imogen Stubbs (Mona) voiced Isabella Clerkwell for I Went to a Marvelous Party and The Rulers of the Universe (both 2016), Time Suit for Chronomancer, Professor Patricia McBride for Purity Undreamed (both 2022), Purity Unleashed and Purity Unbound, and Purifiers for The Wrong Side of History (all 2023)
  • Sean [Carl] Pertwee (Griffith here; Oglander in The King of Clubs; Stubbs in Dead Man's Folly; DI Lejeune in The Pale Horse, 2020) made a cameo appearance in The Five(ish) Doctors
  • for Stephen Churchett see The Murder at the Vicarage
  • stunt double Rick English was a stunt performer on Tooth and Claw
  • Garry Dawson also worked on stand-by props for Cold War and The Crimson Horror
  • executive producer Damien Timmer and Nigel Squibbs (dubbing mixer) both worked on An Adventure in Space and Time too
  • second assistant director Scott Bates was the first assistant on Listen, Time HeistKill the Moon, Mummy on the Orient Express and Last Christmas
  • Dai Hopkins was also the grip on Love & MonstersLet's Kill Hitler and The Wedding of River Song
  • VFX supervisors Simon Blackledge and Matt Wood both worked on A Town Called Mercy and The Power of Three - Wood also supervised The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
