Doctor Who Vs. Marple: A Murder is Announced

Agatha Christie's fifty-first novel (her fourth
Jane Marple mystery) was published in 1950.
An American TV version of 1956 (which starred
Roger Moore and Rochdale-born Gracie Fields
as Marple) was followed by British adaptations
for BBC1 (in 1985), then this 2005 production
from ITV Studios.
The drama was repeated on ITV3 today, and saw
radical plot differences to the original story. Led
by Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple, the cast
featured Catherine Tate, and fifteen Doctor
Who cast and crew connections:

  • Alexander [Henry Fenwick] Armstrong (DI Craddock) and Claire Skinner (Amy here; Miss Rich in Cat Among the Pigeons; Yvonne in The Pale Horse, 2020) both appeared in The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe as Reg and Madge Arwell - Armstrong also provided the voice of Mr. Smith for The Sarah Jane Adventures, SJAAlien Files, The Stolen EarthJourney's End and Redacted 2
  • Keeley [born Clare Julia] Hawes (Phillipa) was Ms. Delphox in Time Heist
  • Zoe Wanamaker (Letitia here; Ariadne Oliver in Poirot) was a Villager in (part 2 of) State of Decay, then Lady Cassandra in The End of the World and New Earth
  • Frances Barber (Lizzie here; Millicent in The Veiled Lady; Merlina in The Clocks) was Madame Kovarian throughout the Series 6 story arc, a role reprised by Big Finish for My Dinner with Andrew and The Furies (both 2018) -  she was also Narrator of AudioGo's Snake Bite (2103)
  • Sienna [Tiggy] Guillory (Julia) voiced Idara Beckett for Fond Farewell (2022)
  • Robert Pugh (Easterbrook here; Hughes in Cards on the Table, 2006) was Tony Mack in The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood, and voiced Emmett Burrows for Five Twenty-Nine (2017)
  • Christian [Peter] Coulson (Edmund) voiced Pelleas in The Bride of Peladon, and Robert McIntosh in The Haunting of Thomas Brewster (both 2008)
  • Gerard [James Pertwee] Horan (DS Fletcher here; PC Flagg in Double Sin) was Clark/Father of Mine in Human Nature and The Family of Blood
  • Cherie [Mary] Lunghi (Mrs. Sweetenham here; Noreen in The Manhood of Edward Robinson) voiced Lady Adella Forster for The Emerald Tiger (2012)
  • Christian Rubeck (Schertz) was Erik in It Takes You Away
  • Christine Greenwood was the make-up designer on Remembrance of the Daleks too
  • for Damien Timmer (executive producer), Sean Clayton (second assistant director) and Nigel Squibbs (sound mixer) see The Body in the Library
