Doctor Who Vs. Spooks, Series 3

Series regulars Peter Firth, Nicola Walker, Hugh
Simon, Rory MacGregor, and Shauna Macdonald
returned for the third season of the award-winning
BBC spy drama, first shown in the autumn of 2004.
The run saw the departure of three key characters
- MI5 officers Tom Quinn (played by Matthew
Macfadyen), Zoe Reynolds (Keeley Hawes), and Danny Hunter (David Oyelowo) - whilst Rupert
Penry-Jones joined the programme as former MI6
agent Adam Carter.
A repeat showing of the ten-part series began on
Drama last night - it featured a total of twenty-
three Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Bill Anderson was also director of Thin Ice and Knock Knock
  • Jonny Campbell was also director of The Vampires of Venice and Vincent and the Doctor
  • Jalaal Hartley (Sayle) was Dick in The Shakespeare Code
  • Harriet [Mary] Walter (Deep Throat) was Jo Patterson in Revolution of the Daleks, and voiced Beatrice Mapp for Big Finish's The Boy That Time Forgot (2008)
  • Alisdair Simpson (Officer) voiced Sir Francis White/David Ritchie for 1963: The Assassination Games (2013), Cleon for Mask of Tragedy (2014), Freeman Lifford for The Boundless Sea (2015), Sidney Wheeler /Field Marshal Brooke for Churchill Victorious (2018), Damadus for Return to Skaro (2020), Lord Varliss for UNIT: Nemesis, and Manning/ Andor for Who Am I? (both 2022)
  • Jake Polonsky was also the cinematographer on The Bells of Saint John and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
  • Huw Rhys [born Rees] (North) was Redpath in The Unquiet Dead
  • Debra Gillett (Psychologist) was Rita Connolly in The Idiot's Lantern
  • Barnaby Kay (Fortescue) was Heidi in The Girl Who Died, and voiced Martin Donaldson for A Life in the Day (2015), Commander Thrakken for The Neverwhen (2016), Gerrard Pulman/Foreman for Precious Annihilation (2020), and Chilton for The Devil's Hoofprints (2021)
  • Daniel [Gwyn] Evans (QC) was Danny Llewellyn in The Christmas Invasion
  • Dominic Mafham (DS Loughton) voiced Moran for The Jigsaw War (2012), and Chidak for The Dalek Contract and The Final Phase (both 2013)
  • Ian McNeice (Judge) portrayed Winston Churchill in The Beast Below, Victory of the DaleksThe Pandorica OpensThe Wedding of River Song and Big Finish's The Churchill YearsTheir Finest Hour (2018), Subterfuge and Operation: Hellfire (both 2020) - he also voiced Zeus for Immortal Beloved (2007), and Reginald Harcourt for Renaissance Man (2012)
  • Kayvan Novak (Ozal) provided the voice of Handles for The Time of the Doctor

  • Arabella Weir (Michelle) voiced the Doctor for Exile (2003), and Valderon for Prisoner of the Ood (2018), then was Billis in The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
  • Owen [Nigel Courtney] Teale (Morgan) was Maldak (pictured) in Vengeance on Varos, and voiced Hayton for The Mind's Eye (2007)
  • Rob Dixon (Mike) voiced Sergeant Wood for No Man's Land (2006), and Reggie Mead for Project: Twilight (2001)
  • Sam Spruell (Belling) was Swarm in Flux
  • James Howard (Reporter) voiced Colonel Matthews for Intelligence for War (2023)
  • Julian Nix was the graphic designer on An Adventure in Space and Time too
