Doctor Who Vs. Messiah, Series 2

Again produced by BBC Northern Ireland, this
gritty crime drama (the first sequel to Messiah)
was an original screenplay from Lizzie Mickery
and earned another Golden Nymph nomination.
This case saw the return of Ken Stott (as DCI
Red Metcalfe), Frances Grey (DS Beauchamp),
Neil Dudgeon (DI Warren), Michelle Forbes,
and Kieran O'Brien. Alun Armstrong and
Vincent Regan joined the cast here as DCI
Charlie McIntyre and DI David Wilby. In the
aftermath of the Soham murders, Messiah II
(subtitled Vengeance is Mine) was postponed
from August 2002, then was shown over two
consecutive nights in January 2003 - it featured
Shaun Dingwall, and thirteen Doctor Who cast
and crew connections:

  • Angela Bruce (Dr. Dugdale) was Brigadier Winifred Bambera in Battlefield, a role reprised by Big Finish for Animal (2011) then UNIT: Brave New World and The War Factory (both 2022)) - she also voiced Mother for The Persistence of Dreams (2018), Herb for Conversion (2019), and Oya/Andarta/Incipient Mother for Consequences (2021)
  • Emily [Sian] Joyce (Anna Marchant) provided an Alien voice for The Girl in the Fireplace, then voiced Lucy Pepperdine for The Quintessence (2024)
  • Aleksandar Mikic (Pasovic) was Yuri Kerenski in The Waters of Mars
  • David [John] Quilter (Herd) was Greeves in The Unicorn and the Wasp
  • Dani Biernat (Chrissie) was the stunt co-ordinator on seventeen stories (from The Christmas Invasion to Kerblam!)
  • Patrick [Bashir] Baladi (Jonathan) was cast in The War Between the Land and the Sea
  • for Art Malik and Greg Bennett see Series 1
  • Lucy Allen was a stunt performer on The Zygon Inversion too
  • Paul Frift was also producer of In the Forest of the Night and Last Christmas
  • Sean Clayton was also second assistant director on Dalek and Father's Day
  • make-up artist Lesley Smith began her career working on (part 1 of) State of Decay
  • Pamela Joyce was also production co-ordinator on The End of the World and The Unquiet Dead
