Doctor Who Vs. Messiah, Series 4

Now co-produced by BBC Northern
Ireland and Great Meadow, this thriller
(the third sequel based on Boris Starling's Messiah), was an original Edgar Award-nominated screenplay from Terry Cafolla.
The serial saw the final appearance of Ken
Stott (as DCI Red Metcalfe) and Neil
Dudgeon (DI Warren), and guest roles for
Maxine Peake and Hugo Speer (DS Clarke
and DI Price). A fifth and final serial aired
in 2008.
First shown over three consecutive nights
in late August 2005, Messiah IV (subtitled
The Harrowing) featured fifteen Doctor Who
cast and crew connections:

  • Helen [Elizabeth] McCrory (Dr. Price) was Rosanna Calvierri (pictured) in The Vampires of Venice
  • Harriet [Mary] Walter (Professor Robb) voiced Beatrice Mapp for Big Finish's The Boy That Time Forgot (2008), then was Jo Patterson in Revolution of the Daleks
  • Aaron Neil (Cotter) and Anthony May (Brown) both starred in All-Consuming Fire (2015) as Tir Ram and Baron Maupertuis respectively - Neil was Dunlop in The Magician's Apprentice, and Varun Singh in Class then voiced Surene Priest for The Boundless Sea (2015), Sanukuma Master for The Rulers of the Universe, Steven Godbold for Five Twenty-Nine, Computer for World Enough and Time, Aramatz for The Very Dark Thing, Stephano/Klossi/Setebos/Trink for Maker of Demons, David for UNIT: Silenced (all 2016), Gorky Sax for The Year After I Died (2017), and Gobran for The Poison of Peladon (2022)
  • Russell [George] Tovey (McManus) was Midshipman Alonso Frame in Voyage of the Damned - a role reprised for The End of Time, Part 2 and One Enchanted Evening (2017)
  • Andrew McCulloch (Fr. James) co-wrote Meglos
  • Garry Marriott (Paramedic) had the same role in The Lazarus Experiment
  • Derek Ezenagu (CSO) voiced Tony for The Gift, and Ruslan/Ivo for The Sonomancer (2016)
  • David Malinowski was also a SFX make-up artist on The Time of Angels and The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, and was a prosthetics technician on The Waters of Mars and The End of Time
  • camera operator Steve Lawes was focus puller on all five episodes (from Rose to World War Three)
  • Gerry O'Riordan was also music recordist on seventy-two stories (from The Christmas Invasion to The Doctor Falls) and Torchwood: Children of Earth
  • series prosthetics designer Waldo Mason was a SFX assistant on Aliens of London
  • Vince McGahon was also steadicam operator on The Vampires of Venice and Vincent and the Doctor
  • for Gareth Milne and Nigel Squibbs see Series 3
