and Shine production companies was chosen to
launch the ITV Encore channel in June 2014, and
a repeat run began on ITV3 last night.
Chris Chibnall devised Broadchurch after his
work on ITV1's long-running legal drama, Law &
Order: UK (2009 to 2014) motivated him to
expand his storytelling by asking what happens
"to [the victim's families after] they left the
screen?" Chibnall also scripted two sequel series
for ITV then Gracepoint, the ten-part American
remake which premiered on Fox in October 2014.
Here, newly promoted DI Alec Hardy (played by
David Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Olivia
Colman) investigate the discovery of 11 year old
Danny Latimer's body at the foot of cliffs on the
beach at Broadchurch - a death that profoundly
affects the small seaside community in Dorset.

Monday nights in March and April 2013 (averaging
almost ten million viewers) - it also featured Jodie
