procedural stories by Scottish author Ian Rankin
(born 1960), that centre on the investigations of
DI John Rebus, and are set mainly in Edinburgh.
Thirteen of Rankin's twenty-four Rebus novels
were adapted over four series by STV Productions
between 2000 and 2007.
John Hannah portrayed the detective in the first
season, before being replaced by Messiah actor
Ken Stott for the remaining three runs (which
included The First Stone, the only story not based
on any Rankin work).
Ron Donachie was cast in the title role for Radio
4's own series, from 2003 to 2017. Chris Lawson
depicted the detective in Long Shadows, Rona
Munro's stage version of 2018, whilst Viaplay's
debut British production was the recent reworking
of Rebus for BBC1.
A repeat run of the first four cases (co-executive produced by Hannah and Philip Hinchcliffe) began on Drama last night - they featured Ewan
Stewart (as DI Morton), Gayanne Potter (DS Clarke), Michelle Gomez,
Mark Bonnar, and a total of nineteen other Doctor Who cast and crew
