Doctor Who Vs. Miss Marple: Nemesis

Agatha Christie's final full-length Marple mystery
(her sixty-second novel) was issued in 1971 (although Sleeping Murder was released later, in
1976), and was dramatised for BBC1 by Trevor
Bowen (who depicted Raymond West in the first
series). A short story collection, Miss Marple's Final Cases (written between 1939 and 1954),
was also published posthumously in 1979.
Joan Hickson's definitive performance here as
Marple earned a second BAFTA Best Actress
nomination. An ITV version followed in 2009.
This two-part serial (originally broadcast in
 February 1987) was shown on Drama tonight
- it featured fifteen Doctor Who cast and crew
connections:

  • [John] Roger Hammond (Broadribb) was Francis Bacon in (episode 1 of) The Chase, and Dr. Runciman in Mawdryn Undead, then voiced Harold Withers for Big Finish's The Eternal Summer (2009)

  • Jane Booker (Miss Cooke here; Monica in The Clergyman's Daughter) voiced Dron/Yetana for How to Make a Killing in Time Travel (2018)
  • David [Diarmuid] Blake Kelly (Tramp) was Captain Briggs in The Chase (3), and Jacob Kewper in The Smugglers
  • Cy Town (Passenger here; Porter in The Fourth Man) appeared in thirty-five episodes of the classic run (from The Silurians to The Curse of Fenricand was a Dalek operator in every Dalek story from Frontier in Space onwards
  • Frances Parker was film editor on Terminus too
  • Don Giles was production designer on The Power of Kroll too
  • Robert Gabriel was production manager on K9 and Company too
  • Thea Murray was production assistant on The Masque of Mandragora too
  • for George Gallaccio, John Walker and Bernard Ashby (crew) see The Body in the Library
June Whitfield again voiced Miss Marple in a five-part
production of Nemesis, first broadcast on Radio 4 in 1998
