Doctor Who Vs. Dorothy L Sayers Mystery: Have His Carcase

The last television adaptations
of the crime novels of Dorothy L
Sayers were originally shown on
BBC1 in 1987, and starred
Edward Petherbridge and Harriet
Walter as Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane.
This ten-part series followed the Corporation's two live versions of
Sayers' stageplay Busman's
Honeymoon (1947 and 1957),
five BBC serials (televised bet-
ween 1972 and 1975), and a
Radio 4 treatment in 1981.
This four-part case was based on
the writer's seventh Wimsey novel, published in 1932 - it featured
Michael Troughton, and twenty-four Doctor Who cast/crew connections:

  • Arthur Cox (Hardy) was Cully in The Dominators, and Henderson in The Eleventh Hour
  • Peter [Henry] Benson (Perkins) was Bor in Terminus
  • Arthur Hewlett (Trewin) was Kalmar in State of Decay, and Kimber in Terror of the Vervoids
  • Arthur [James] Blake (Editor) was Hrhoonda in (episode 2 of) The Web Planet
  • John [Edward] Cater (Pollock) was Professor Krimpton in The War Machines
  • Robin Soans (Merryweather) was Luvic in The Keeper of Traken, and the Chronolock Guy in Face the Raven, then was Narrator of The Sins of Winter (2015)
  • Brian [John Lumley] Hawksley (Dr. Fenchurch) was Brewster in Black Orchid
  • Trudie Goodwin (Cherie) voiced Faith for The Uncertain Shore (2020), and Galta for Audacity (2023)
  • John Mooney was also sound assistant on Remembrance of the Daleks, Silver Nemesis (3)The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Battlefield and Ghost Light
  • for Barbara Gosnold, Clare Graham, Nicholas Laughland, Alan Machin, Colin Mapson, Clive Thomas, Shirley Coward, Monica Rodger and Paul Wheeler see Strong Poison
  • Anushia Nieradzik was also the costume designer on Frontios, Attack of the Cybermen and Battlefield
  • Bob Roberts was also film recordist on The MassacreThe Three Doctors and Resurrection of the Daleks
  • Geraldine Stephenson was the choreographer on The Brain of Morbius too
