Doctor Who Vs. Trial & Retribution, Series VII: Suspicion

Lynda La Plante's acclaimed
crime drama returned to ITV in
September 2003. David Hayman,
Dorian Lough, and Inday Ba reprised their respective roles as
DCS Walker, DS Satchell, and
DC West, whilst Barbara Thorn
(DS MacKenzie) left the pro-
gramme after six years.Victoria
Smurfit debuted here as DCI
Róisin Connor, and would remain with the show until the final series in 2009.
Like La Plante's earlier hit series
Prime Suspect, the programme employed its distinctive split-screen technique.
A repeat run of this two-part case (the first given a specific subtitle)
began on Drama last night - it featured Neve McIntoshCharles
Dance, and eleven Doctor Who cast and crew connections:

  • Pip [Dean] Torrens (DCS Lawson) was Headmaster Rocastle in Human Nature and The Family of Blood, then voiced Charlie Gibbs for Big Finish's Eldrad Must Die! (2013), and Kenton for Break the Ice (2022)
  • Andrew Burt (Donald) was Valgard in Terminus
  • Raad Rawi (Quinn QC) voiced Prince Hassan Al-Nadyr for Who Killed Toby Kinsella? (2016), St. Nicholas for Better Watch Out and Fairytale of Salzburg (both 2018), and Tubal/Maygo/King Hiarbas for The Phoenicians (2019)
  • Kayvan Novak (Board) provided the voice of Handles for The Time of the Doctor
  • Tim Faraday (Estate Agent) was Tom's Dad in Fear Her
  • Jim [Edward] Carter (Dr. Jenkins) voiced Brother Bernard for The Book of Kells (2011)
  • Georgia Mackenzie (PC Daniels) voiced Zorcha for The Difference Office (2022), and MOM/Medbots for A Mother's Love (2023)
  • James Greene and Jean Boht [born Dance] (Neighbours) were the Abbott in The Bells of Saint John, and voiced Hilda Schofield for Afterlife (2013)
  • Liam Collins was also stand-by props on twenty-eight episodes (from The Day of the Doctor to The Husbands of River Song)
  • Jim McCallum (stand-by props) was stand-by art director on the 50th anniversary special, then art director of seven other stories (from Listen to Death in Heaven)
  • SFX supervisor Tony Auger was VFX assistant on K9 & Company, then designer on Black Orchid
