Doctor Who Vs. Grantchester, Series 5

Tom Brittney, Robson Green, Al
Weaver, and Tess Peake Jones all
returned for the fifth season of
ITV Studios' period crime drama
based on James Runcie's The Grantchester Mysteries.
A repeat run of the six-part series
(first shown in early 2020) began
on ITV3 last night - it featured Jemma Redgrave, and a total
of fifteen Doctor Who cast/crew connections:
  • for Peake Jones, Nick Brimble and Oliver Dimsdale see Series 2
  • Sandra [Jane] Huggett (Marie) voiced Dorada for Big Finish's The War Master 5 (2020)
  • Siobhan Redmond (Andrea) voiced Talin for Revenge of the Swarm, then the eponymous Time Lord for The Rani Elite (both 2014) and Planet of the Rani (2015)
  • David [James] Bamber (John) was Captain Quell in Mummy on the Orient Express, and voiced Emperor Constantine for The Council of Nicaea (2005), and Colonel Ulrik/Whitmore for The Four Doctors (2010)

  • Bern Callaco (Suspect) was an Operator in The Return of Doctor Mysterio, and Soldier in Thin Ice
  • Rupert Holliday Evans (Burrows) was Colonel [Alan] Mace in The Sontaran Stratagem and The Poison Sky, then voiced Celtic Warrior for The Relics of Time, Artist for The Demon of Paris, and Cop for Starfall (all 2010)
  • Tracy Ann Oberman (Sister) was Yvonne Hartman in Army of Ghosts and Doomsday - a role reprised for Big Finish's Torchwood - she also voiced Temperance Finch/Mrs. Grenville for Deimos and The Resurection of Mars (both 2010), and the titular Tartarus (2019)
  • Sean Gilder (Finch) was the Sycorax Leader in The Christmas Invasion
  • stunt co-ordinator Stephanie Carey was a stunt performer on ten stories (from Voyage of the Damned to The Vanquishers)
  • Tom Chapman was also the film editor on Spyfall (2) and Orphan 55

Doctor Who Vs. Luther, Series 5

After an absence of three years,
the long-awaited fifth season of
Neil Cross' acclaimed thriller
debuted on BBC1 in January 2019.
Idris Elba returned as maverick
DCI John Luther in another dark
murder case, whilst newcomer
Wunmi Mosaku played DS Halliday.
Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley,
and Ruth Wilson reprised their
respective roles as Schenk, Benny,
and Alice Morgan.
A film version of Luther, The
Fallen Sun, was finally unveiled
in cinemas this month, then is
launched on Netflix next month.
A repeat showing of the drama
(originally shown over four con-
secutive nights from New Year's
Day) began on Drama last night - it featured Paul McGann, Patrick Malahide, and a total of twenty-two Doctor Who cast/crew alumni:
