of the crime novels of Dorothy
L Sayers (1893-1957) were
originally shown on BBC1 in
1987, and starred Edward
Petherbridge and Harriet
Walter as Lord Peter Wimsey
and Harriet Vane.
The ten-part series followed
the Corporation's two live TV versions of Sayers' stage play
Busman's Honeymoon (in 1947
and 1957), and five serials pro-
duced between 1972 and 1975 starred Ian Carmichael (who
then reprised Wimsey for Radio 4 in 1981). This three-part case (based
on Sayers' tenth Wimsey novel, published in 1935) featured Caroline
John, Richard Morant, and fifteen Doctor Who cast/crew connections:
- Clare Clifford (Graduate) was Professor Kyle in Earthshock
- Charmian [Rosemary] May (Miss Hillyard) was Barbara Taploe in The Devil of Winterborne, and Margaret Wyndham in Ghosts of Winterborne
- make-up designer Jennifer Hughes was an artist on Warriors of the Deep
- Jennie Osborn was production manager on Enlightenment too
- John Brace was also VFX designer on Full Circle, The Five Doctors and Revelation of the Daleks
- Bill Wild was the film editor on Arc of Infinity too
- Elmer Cossey was also film cameraman on (episode 5 of) Planet of the Daleks, Genesis of the Daleks, Revenge of the Cybermen, Image of the Fendahl and The Pirate Planet
