Doctor Who: Series 11 News























BBC Worldwide's annual showcase event was held at the Echo Arena in 
Liverpool yesterday. Both Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall attended 
the press junket along with over 700 of the world's top TV buyers, but 
the highlight for Whovians was the unveiling of the new Doctor Who logo.
Designed by Little Hawk to represent the new era, the updated logo and insignia also signify the programme as a global brand. A brief animation
was released which featured sound effects from musician Matthew Herbert.
Since the appointment of a new showrunner and the casting of the first 
female Doctor and her new companions, the following information from 
Series 11 has been revealed:

  • Doctor Who will return to BBC One in October
  • the ten-part season may be shown on Sunday nights
  • Matt Strevens and Sam Hoyle join Chibnall as executive producers
  • Jamie Childs and Sallie Aprahamian assigned as directors
  • composer on the revived run since 2005, Murray Gold left the show after completing work on Twice Upon a Time
  • SFX house Milk VFX have been replaced by Double Negative (Blade Runner 2049)
  • location filming has been undertaken in Whittaker's native Yorkshire, Wales and South Africa

Doctor Who Vs. Trauma

This psychological thriller centred on
the lives of two fathers, Dan Bowker
(played by John Simm) and Jon Allerton (Adrian Lester), whose paths cross when Dan's teenage son Alex
is stabbed and dies in the trauma
department under the care of consultant surgeon Allerton.
Scripted by Mike Bartlett (writer of Knock Knock and creator of Doctor Foster), the drama was produced by Tall Story Pictures and ITV Studios.
Trauma was shown over three
consecutive nights this week, and
featured twelve other Doctor Who 
cast and crew connections:

  • Jemima Rooper (Nora) voiced Izzy Sinclair for Big Finish's The Company of Friends (2009)
  • Jade Anouka (Alana) was the Waitress in The Bells of Saint John, and voiced Danuta for The Blood Furnace (2017)
  • Steven Elder (Beckett) voiced Farrow for Jubilee (2003), and Rawden for Something Inside (2006)
  • Calvin Dean (Saunders) was Ha-Ha in Nightmare in Silver
  • Catherine Skinner (Lucy) voiced Cherryanne for The Entropy Plague (2015), and Princess Myrahla for The Eighth of March (2019)
  • Paul Thornley (Holloway) voiced Marko for Seven Keys to Doomsday (2008), Michael Rond for Fitz's Story, Gomori for Paper Cuts (both 2009), and Robbie Flint and Cyril for Criss-Cross (2015)
  • Richard Cox was film editor on The Next Doctor too
  • John Mooney was also a sound assistant on Remembrance of the Daleks, Silver Nemesis (3), The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Battlefield and Ghost Light
  • Joe Malone was sound assistant on The Husbands of River Song too
  • James Metcalf was floor runner on An Adventure in Space and Time too
  • Abbi Collins was also stunt co-ordinator on eleven episodes (from Rise of the Cybermen to The Waters of Mars) and The Sarah Jane Adventures
  • Amanda Foster was a stunt performer on The Doctor's Daughter too

Doctor Who Vs. In His Life: The John Lennon Story

This American TV movie explored the early musical career of John Winston Lennon (portrayed by Philip McQuillan), from receiving his first guitar in 1956
(a gift from his mother Julia) to the eve of the Beatles' legendary appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964.
Liverpool-born actors Daniel McGowan, Mark Rice-Oxley, and Christian Ealey played Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Starkey (Ringo), whilst Lee Williams and Scot Williams starred as original bass guitarist Stuart Sutcliffe (1940-1962) and drummer Pete Best (born 1941).
Shown today on the True Movies channel, the NBC
Studios film first screened in late 2000) featured
six Doctor Who cast connections:
