Doctor Who Vs. Sherlock, Series 1

Sherlock Holmes, the immortal
character of fiction created by
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is age-
less, invincible and unchanging.
In solving significant problems
of the present day he remains
as ever - the supreme master
of deductive reasoning.
The Voice of Terror (1942)

Sherlock was conceived in 2008 by
Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss,
as a modern-day reworking of the Sherlock Holmes canon. Both then
scripted the first and third serials respectively, and served as series
executive producers, whilst Gatiss
would also portray Mycroft Holmes.
Benedict [Timothy Carlton]
Cumberbatch (born 1976) was
cast as the latest incarnation of the Great Detective. Matt Smith auditioned for the part of that other Doctor, Watson, now depicted by Martin [John Christopher] Freeman (b. 1971). Dublin-born Andrew Scott debuted as James Moriarty in The Great Game.
The untransmitted, hour-long pilot of A Study in Pink (filmed in 2009)
was eventually remade a year later, and the run (produced in reverse
order) launched on BBC One and HD in July 2020. A repeat run of the
thrillers began on Drama last night - they featured a total of thirty-
