Doctor WhoVs. The Return of Sherlock Holmes, Series 1

Jeremy Brett's definitive portrayal
of the Great Detective returned to
Granada's acclaimed period drama,
and was now joined by Edward
Hardwicke (1932-2011) who replaced
David Burke as Dr. Watson.
In 1965, Burke had appeared in The
 Greek Interpreter opposite Peter
Cushing's Holmes, and would later
depict Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in
Photographing Fairies.
Eric Porter and Colin Jeavons played
Moriarty (in The Empty Houseand
Lestrade, whilst Patrick Allen starred
as Sebastian Moran.
These seven mysteries (from the
collection of thirteen, all originally
serialised in The Strand from 1903first aired in the summer of 1986.
A repeat run of the third season began on ITV4 today - it featured
Ian Marter (in his final television role, as Inspector Fereday in part
three) and eighteen other Doctor Who cast and crew connections:
