Doctor Who Vs. Sherlock Holmes: The Golden Years

London-born Christopher Lee (1922-
2015) appeared opposite Peter 
Cushing in Hammer's The Hound of

the Baskervilles in 1959, but he first

portrayed the Great Detective in the

European television movie, The Deadly

 Necklace (1962). Lee returned to the

role thirty years later for two TV

mysteries, shot back-to-back in 1991

by Harmony Gold Productions. He had

also played Mycroft Holmes in The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970).

 Patrick Macnee reprised the role of Dr.

 Watson here (first realised for Sherlock

Holmes in New York in 1976), then

 depicted Holmes for The Hound of

London (1993). The first case was shown on Together TV (formerly the Community channel) tonight - both

films featured a total of twelve Doctor Who cast connections:
