Jerry Weintraub had acquired Thorn EMI's
entire library, including The Avengers, in
1986. He subsequently sold most of that
archive to PolyGram, but retained the
rights to ABC's influencial TV series as he
believed it still had potential. Weintraub's
proposed cinematic remake was finally
released by Warner Bros in 1998.
Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman reprised
the iconic roles of John Steed and Emma
Peel. Shown on ITV4 tonight, this action
