Doctor Who Vs. James Bond, Part 13: Octopussy

Another Bond season continued on ITV4 last

night with Roger Moore's sixth and penultimate

assignment as the iconic spy. The title of Eon's

thirteenth production was taken from Ian

Fleming's 1966 anthology, Octopussy and the

Living Daylights. Although an original screen-

play, this story was loosely based on another

short story, The Property of a Lady.

Main location filming was undertaken in India,

England and Berlin, interiors were filmed at

Pinewood studios, and Rita Coolidge provided

the opening theme song.

Following the death of Bernard Lee in 1981,

Robert Brown made his first of four appear-

ances here as M, and the film (released in

1983) featured twenty-seven Doctor Who

cast and crew connections:

• Philip [James] Voss (Auctioneer) was Acomat in Marco Polo, and Wahed in (episode 1 of) The Dominators
